Pirelli Stadium -The £1m Artificial Grass Pitch
‘Pirelli Stadium’ nestled on Princess Way, East Staffordshire England. This famous football stadium established in 2005, and the current home of ‘Burton Albion FC’. The stadium come constructed on the previous site of Pirelli UK Tyres LTD and Sports and Social Club and has the entire land donated by Pirelli. It cost around £7.2 million.
Pirelli Stadium was designed by the popular architects Cawkwell, Davidson and Hadfield. This served as the ‘inspiration’ of numerous newer ground such as Morecambe’s Globe Arena and proposed Haves and Yeading stadium. In July 12, 2010, the stadium received its most recent ‘safety certificate’ from the Staffordshire Country Council.
To improve the facility and the entire area, planners created ambitious plan to create new £1m all weather sports facility at Burton Albion. The ‘East Staffordshire Borough Council’ gave their approval to the project, to make it ready for use in autumn. BACT or Burton Albion Community Trust support the project and to construct new artificial pitch, and complete changing rooms. In fact, the said project already gained massive approval and gained secured approximately £850,000 from Football Association and Premier League facilities fund.
Now, the trust is throwing its final push to a raise remaining budget needed to finish the development. The stadium was embarked to be utilized by the ‘Brewers’ as training pitch, when the place was established in 2015. However, the first team squad recently used the amenities at St. George’s Park. Now, the ‘Burton Albion Community Trust’ (football club charity off shoot) will create much needed facilities for the community. The said facility will allow the BACT to expand their program. Which will see various sports organizations in the area have complete access to the new purpose built sports site.
Andy Taylor (BACT Head of Community said that this is a great news, they can now move forward and used and exciting project. They have been working with Football Association, Football Foundations and Premier League for over 12 months to submit funding and planning applications to develop 3 G artificial pitch grass. Now, all their hard work become clear. They have also secured almost £843,510 of funding from FA facilities fund and Premier League delivered by Football Foundation.
Local Partners
With the help of their local partners, they already gained commitments from well-known companies such as Dove and Trent. Also including the ‘Consolidated Charity of Burton’ and the ‘East Staffordshire Borough Council Local Neighborhood Development Fund’ and other local businesses. The group is now also focusing in the remaining budget by getting and encouraging more partners. If everything goes according to plan, Pirelli Stadium can be completed and running by September this year (2016)
The chairman of Ben Robinson -Burton Albion stated that the football club Pirelli Stadium focus is also the betterment of the community. The new facilities of the stadium are great assets to gain more awareness and benefits. Good thing that BACT gain access to funding and planning approval to deliver this amazing project. The stadium will not just benefit the organizations, athletes but the entire community of Staffordshire, England.
